Volvo Cars Joins Starbucks to offer 50 Fast Chargers

Revolutionizing EV Charging on a 1,350-Mile Scenic Route

In an innovative collaboration, Volvo Car USA and Starbucks have officially launched a groundbreaking public electric-vehicle (EV) fast charging network. Spanning 15 Starbucks locations along a 1,350-mile route from Denver to Seattle, the network features 50 Volvo Cars-and-Starbucks-branded DC fast chargers, strategically placed approximately every 100 miles.

Furthermore, designed for ease and efficiency, these chargers offer a remarkable 110 miles of charge in just 15 minutes for 2024 model year and newer Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge models. Notably, EV drivers, especially those with Google embedded in their Volvo cars, can effortlessly locate and access stations through the integrated ChargePoint app. For other EV users with CCS1 or CHAdeMO receptacles, they can rely on the ChargePoint smartphone app.

Enhancing EV Charging Reliability and Sustainability through Partnership

The initiative not only transforms the charging landscape but also addresses a significant challenge to EV adoption – the reliability of public charging infrastructure. In collaboration with Starbucks and ChargePoint, Volvo Car USA takes responsibility for maintaining the chargers. This ensures quick response times to issues and minimizes downtime, reducing consumer frustration.

Moreover, Mike Cottone, President of Volvo Car USA and Canada, emphasizes the value of the partnership by stating, “These Starbucks locations provide a perfect stop along a long drive to relax and quickly recharge not only the car, but the driver.”

Beyond the convenience, the Volvo-Stars Charge initiative contributes to environmental goals. As Volvo aims to become a fully electric car company by 2030, Starbucks is striving to halve its carbon footprint by 2030 and lead the retail industry in decarbonization solutions, including EV charging and onsite solar availability.

In addition, Michael Kobori, Starbucks chief sustainability officer, notes, “Public EV charging should be as easy as getting a great cup of coffee – and now, it can be thanks to our partnership with Volvo Car USA.”

Furthermore, the charging route, passing through Federal Opportunity Zones, ensures equal access to communities that may have lacked charging infrastructure. Additionally, it winds through scenic landscapes, offering zero tailpipe-emission driving experiences at iconic spots, including the Snoqualmie Pass, Snake River, Arches National Park, and destinations like Park City and Vail.

Communities benefiting from Volvo Cars’ chargers at Starbucks store locations along the route include Seattle, such as:

  • Seattle, WA
  • Issaquah, WA
  • Yakima, WA
  • Hermiston, OR
  • La Grande, OR
  • Nampa, ID
  • Twin Falls, ID
  • Uintah, ID
  • Sandy, UT
  • Provo, UT
  • Grand Junction, CO
  • Glenwood Springs, CO
  • Silverthorne, CO
  • Idaho Springs, CO
  • Broomfield, CO

This strategic placement enhances accessibility and reinforces the American road trip experience.
