Honda Prelude Hybrid Returns: A Sporty Future Awaits

Electrified Icon Makes a Comeback in Late 2025

Honda has announced the return of a legend. The all-new hybrid-electric Honda Prelude will hit the U.S. market late next year. This sixth-generation Prelude blends sporty heritage with modern electrification. Fans of the iconic nameplate will revel in its innovative features and sharp design.

When It Began

The Prelude’s legacy began in 1978, capturing hearts with its sleek looks and dynamic performance. The new model continues this tradition, debuting Honda’s S+ Shift system. This feature enhances Linear Shift Control for a more thrilling drive. As a longtime fan of the Prelude, I find this addition particularly exciting. Honda’s commitment to driver engagement shines through here.

“The return of the Honda Prelude as a hybrid-electric sports model demonstrates our continued commitment to offer a variety of exhilarating products to meet the needs of our customers,” said Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda Auto Sales. She noted how the Prelude will join the Civic and Accord as hybrids, completing a historic trio.

First Look

The Prelude Concept made its North American debut at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show. It showcased the sporty coupe’s cutting-edge design, 45 years after the original model. Past Preludes introduced game-changing tech, like four-wheel steering and torque vectoring systems. This hybrid version aims to uphold that innovative spirit.

Honda’s electrification strategy is ambitious. The company aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 and 100% EV and fuel cell sales by 2040. Hybrid vehicles play a pivotal role in this transition. In 2024, electrified models accounted for over a quarter of Honda’s U.S. sales. Hybrid trims now dominate Accord and CR-V sales, and the new Civic hybrid is expected to follow suit.

The Future is Innovative at Honda

Looking ahead, Honda’s innovation pipeline is robust. At CES 2024, the brand unveiled two Honda 0 Series concepts. These vehicles preview the future of Honda’s electrification journey. A production version of the flagship Saloon model is planned for 2026. By 2030, Honda will launch seven 0 Series models globally.

The Prelude’s return signals more than nostalgia; it’s a bold step into the electrified future. For enthusiasts like me, it’s a thrilling reminder of Honda’s dedication to the joy of driving. This hybrid sports coupe isn’t just an icon reborn—it’s a symbol of progress.
