Dixon Secures Stunning Victory at Long Beach for Ganassi

57th Career IndyCar Win for Dixon

Scott Dixon once again showcased his unparalleled prowess on the racetrack, clinching a remarkable victory at the Acura Long Beach Grand Prix through a blend of calculated patience and daring maneuvers.

In a race marked by strategic brilliance and nail-biting action, Dixon powered his No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to the checkered flag on one tank of Shell 100% Renewable Race Fuel, holding off a charging Colton Herta by a mere .9798 of a second. Dixon’s ability to stretch fuel mileage to its limits is legendary, and he displayed his mastery once more in the closing laps of the 85-lap street race.

“It was tough; that was really tough,” Dixon admitted after the race. “Honestly, I didn’t think we were going to make it, and they kept giving me a (fuel) number, and it just wasn’t getting … I was close but not enough. Luckily, we were on the safe side there.”

Starting from eighth on the grid, Dixon navigated the demanding Long Beach circuit with precision, showcasing both his driving skill and strategic acumen. His victory marked his first win of the season and his 57th career triumph, further solidifying his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats.

Reigning series champion Alex Palou secured third place in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, while series points leader Josef Newgarden settled for fourth after an incident involving Herta dashed his hopes of challenging Dixon for the lead.

The race saw a split in strategies among competitors, with Dixon and others opting for a fuel-saving approach, while some drivers pitted early during a caution period triggered by Christian Rasmussen’s spin. Newgarden emerged as a strong contender in the latter stages of the race, but Dixon’s defensive driving and strategic use of push-to-pass kept him at bay.

Despite pressure from Herta and Newgarden, Dixon maintained his composure and ultimately pulled away in the closing laps to secure a memorable victory at Long Beach. His ability to deliver under pressure and execute flawless strategy further cements his status as a force to be reckoned with in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

With a thrilling Long Beach Grand Prix now in the books, attention now turns to the upcoming Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix powered by AmFirst at Barber Motorsports Park. With the championship battle heating up, fans can expect more exhilarating action as the season unfolds.
