Boredom, Lack of Passing and All of The Above
For those who know me and now for those who will, F1 is more than just a passion for me. F1 is my religion. So the fact that I stopped watching this past weekend during the Imola GP in Italy to clean my toilet says a lot.
First the Good
- I welcomed the return of gravel run-offs. It essentially minimized or eliminated track limit issues, and it elevated some drama with spins and near misses;
- The Italian fans aka the Tifosi in Italy are amazing and it was great to see Charles Leclerc on the podium, even if it was only in third position following stellar practice runs;
Now the Bad
- Sadly, I only had two good things to say about the race;
- Lack of passing and on-track drama made me get up to clean my toilet. Once I returned 5-minutes later, nothing had changed, and the TV commenters were desperate to speak about something;
- The race was soooooooo terrible, I even napped;

Like I said previously, F1 is my religion, and there’s no excuse for boring races in 2024. With Liberty Media (owners of Formula One) expanding the calendar and looking at new tracks around the World, they need to focus on creating more drama on track. Add more DRS zones, change circuit layouts, do something, anything really!
This weekend is the Monaco GP, another typically boring race, except for qualifying. But I sincerely hope I’m not cleaning my toilet during another grand prix.
But at least I can look forward to IndyCar’s 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500. Now, here’s a race that never disappoints
