Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein Triumphs in Electrifying Season 10 Kickoff
In an exhilarating launch to Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the 2024 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix unfolded with TAG Heuer Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein showcasing unparalleled driving mastery.
Wehrlein’s authoritative performance at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez marked a brilliant start, securing his fourth Julius Baer Pole Position in Mexico. Despite a brief relinquishment of the lead during an ATTACK MODE maneuver under Full Course Yellow conditions, Wehrlein’s strategic overtaking maneuver solidified his lead, clinching the checkered flag in a spectacular victory.
The race podium featured Sébastien Buemi of Envision Racing in second place and Jaguar TCS Racing’s newcomer, Nick Cassidy, claiming the third spot. Wehrlein’s triumph not only showcased his skills but also underscored Porsche’s powertrain excellence, marking the third consecutive victory for Porsche-powered vehicles in Mexico City E-Prix events.
Maximilian Guenther and Mitch Evans also delivered noteworthy performances, engaging in intense battles on the track. A defensive showdown between Evans and Jean-Éric Vergne, who climbed impressively from 10th to sixth, added to the race’s excitement. Notable displays of skill from Jake Hughes, Stoffel Vandoorne, defending champion Jake Dennis, and Norman Nato solidified their places in the top ten.
Despite a relatively clean race, a momentary interruption occurred on lap 9 when Robin Frijns hit the wall at the exit of the Foro Sol. The subsequent Full Course Yellow for car removal temporarily delayed Wehrlein’s pursuit of then-leader Buemi.
With the dust settling, Wehrlein leads the Drivers’ standings, while TAG Heuer Porsche tops Teams’. The 2024 Mexico City E-Prix sets the stage for a night race in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia on January 27 and 28—a double-header promising electrifying action in upcoming Formula E events.
