The Vancouver International Auto Show has been officially cancelled for the 4th year in a row.
Global News was the first to report, with New Car Dealers Association of BC, President and CEO, Blair Qualey, sharing the following statement “for the last several months, we have been working with vehicle manufacturers and other partners in anticipation of returning in-person to celebrate the 100 edition in the traditional auto show in March.”
The reason behind the cancellation, supply chain issues.
Qualey continued, “unfortunately, ongoing global supply chain issues mean that a number of manufacturers and distributors are not in a position to commit to participating in many North American auto shows, including Vancouver.”
Vancouver Auto Show organizers hope to offer car enthusiasts a solution for later in the year, but no additional details are available at this time.
Is the Canadian International Auto Show next to cancel? Rumours persists that many manufacturers have pulled funding from Canada’s largest consumer show. If a cancellation isn’t imminent, a reduced show floor size is expected.
Blame supply chain issues, or the fact manufactures can reach more of their target audience with drive events, and digital advertisement, then they can with auto shows which cost upwards of a few millions dollars to participate in, before support staff and damage from participation is factored in.
What do you think, are auto shows still relevant?
