The Weapon Known As Santino Ferrucci

Is Ferrucci Officially the Esteban Ocon of IndyCar?

I always enjoy the Detroit Grand Prix.  It’s a good circuit allowing for a lot of on-track battles, and I like the dual-sided pit lane. But now because of Santino Ferrucci, driver of the #14 AJ Foyt Racing Chevy machine, we know there’s going to be even better action on track and off because he’s going to run into someone or try to win a girly shoving match.

Case in point.  Ferrucci’s battle with ex-F1 driver, Romain Grosjean has been ongoing and well-documented.  Grosjean has even been quoted as saying “We’re on two different levels.”  Which, personally, I feel is true, even if it’s been a minute since Grosjean has won a race.

Now we can add two more drivers to the Ferrucci hit list, 4x Indy 500 Champion, Helio Castroneves and Kyle Kirkwood.  Helio who was substituting for a lacklustre Tom Blomqvist at Meyer Shank Racing following a disastrous Indy 500 where he took out three cars on lap one of the 500.  Helio, ends up being punted by Ferrucci, because the kid just doesn’t know how to look up or predict that a corner is fast approaching and maybe he should slow down in anticipation that every other car in front of him will be slowing down.

Then before that drama unfolded, there was the pushing argument with Andretti Global driver, Kyle Kirkwood, who was looking to chat with Ferrucci following their on track drama.  Ferrucci didn’t want to chat, instead, he pushed Kirkwood away from him before the two could discuss their practice drama.

Esteban Ocon is the problem child of F1.  There’s no secret he crashes into everything, but mostly his teammates.  In Ferrucci’s case, he crashes into everyone else, except his teammate (for now), but he’s reckless like Ocon.  At this point, AJ Foyt or the team manager should step in and talk with Ferrucci, because he’s not only making himself look reckless, but at this point, the team looks bad.

I enjoy good hard racing, but I enjoy watching good hard racing with fewer yellow flags.

What do you think about Ferrucci?  Is he a problem child, or just a hard racer?
