The all-electric Ford Performance SuperVan 4.2 continues its streak of dominance, clinching yet another record as the fastest closed-wheel vehicle to lap Mount Panorama in Australia. This remarkable feat marks the second speed record achieved by the van in recent months.

At the 2024 Thrifty Bathurst 500 held last weekend, driver Romain Dumas showcased exceptional skill, guiding the SuperVan 4.2 around the 3.85-mile circuit in an astonishing 1:56.32 minutes. Transitioning through the Mountain and Conrad straights, the van clocked speeds exceeding 186 mph.

    Ford-Performance-Supervan-Rear-Angle-shared-by-AutomotiveWoman.com

This achievement surpasses the previous record of 1:56:61, set just a week prior by an unrestricted Mercedes-AMG GT3 race car during the Bathurst 12 Hours, as reported by The Drive. Notably, the SuperVan 4.2 also secures the title of the quickest electric and commercial vehicle to navigate the track.

Despite its name, the SuperVan 4.2 resembles more of an extra tall race car than a conventional van. Apart from its side profile, everything from its lightweight construction to its modified chassis is meticulously crafted to optimize performance. Its powertrain, comprising three electric motors generating a combined 1,400 hp, draws power from a liquid-cooled 50-kWh battery pack.

While there are currently no production plans for the SuperVan, elements of its design and insights gained during its development are expected to influence forthcoming Ford EVs. Andrew Birkic, CEO of Ford Australia, emphasized this notion, stating that lessons learned from the SuperVan’s exploits will directly inform the brand’s future electric road cars.

    Ford-Performance-Supervan-Front-left-angle-shared-by-AutomotiveWoman.com

“Future products that customers drive on our roads will carry a little spirit of Mount Panorama within them,” remarked Birkic.

The SuperVan’s penchant for setting speed records is undeniable. In November of last year, it clinched the Open Class competition lap record at the Pike’s Peak Hill Climb, with Dumas once again at the helm. Clocking a remarkable time of 8:47:68 minutes over the 12.5-mile course, the van shattered the previous record by over half a minute.

  • The Shocking Reality of EV Resale Depreciation

The Shocking Reality of EV Resale Depreciation

    Navigating the EV Resale Conundrum

As the auto industry embraces electric vehicles, discussions on their adoption evolve. Recently, EV depreciation raises concerns. Used EV prices decline faster, questioning their long-term appeal.

A recent CNBC report notes used electric vehicle prices dropping, hindering EV adoption. Experts expected stabilization, but reality differs.

There are reasons to remain optimistic!

EV depreciation stems from rapid tech advancement. Newer models outshine older ones. Consumer perception amplifies this effect. Moreover, concerns about battery degradation and the associated costs of battery replacement further dampen resale values. While EV manufacturers have made significant strides in improving battery durability and longevity, the fear of costly repairs or replacements looms large in the minds of prospective buyers. As a result, many potential buyers are hesitant to invest in used electric vehicles, driving down demand and, consequently, resale prices.

The issue of EV depreciation has not gone unnoticed by industry leaders. Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, a prominent electric car manufacturer, recently addressed the challenge of electric vehicle resale prices in an interview with Fortune. Ingenlath emphasized the importance of building trust and confidence in the longevity and reliability of electric vehicles to combat depreciation concerns. He stressed the need for transparent communication regarding battery life, performance, and maintenance to reassure consumers about the value proposition of electric cars in the long run.

So, what does the future hold for electric vehicle resale values? While the current landscape may appear daunting, there are reasons to remain optimistic. As the EV market matures and consumer confidence in electric vehicles grows, depreciation rates are likely to stabilize. Continued advancements in battery technology, coupled with efforts to extend warranty coverage and provide affordable servicing options, could help alleviate concerns about EV ownership costs and bolster resale values.

In my opinion, it’s essential to approach the topic of EV depreciation with nuance and insight. While the current challenges are undeniable, they are not insurmountable. By addressing consumer concerns, fostering innovation, and promoting transparency, the automotive industry can navigate the complexities of EV depreciation and pave the way for a more sustainable and prosperous electric future.

  • Hyundai and Kia Revolutionize EVs with ‘Active Air Skirt’

Hyundai and Kia Revolutionize EVs with ‘Active Air Skirt’

Unveiling the groundbreaking AAS technology, Hyundai and Kia redefine electric vehicle efficiency and performance

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation introduced the revolutionary ‘Active Air Skirt’ (AAS) technology, aimed at enhancing the driving range and stability of electric vehicles (EVs) by minimizing aerodynamic resistance during high-speed driving.

AAS Technology: A Paradigm Shift in EV Aerodynamics

AAS operates by intelligently controlling the airflow beneath the vehicle during high-speed driving, effectively managing turbulence around the wheels. As electric vehicles fiercely compete for an extended driving range on a single charge, the symbiotic relationship between vehicle design and aerodynamics becomes pivotal.

Installed discreetly between the front bumper and the front wheels, AAS remains hidden during normal operation but springs into action at speeds exceeding 80 km/h. It retracts at 70 km/h, strategically adapting to the aerodynamic challenges posed at higher speeds. The specific deployment in front of the tires, rather than covering the entire front end, aligns with the unique characteristics of Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform, optimizing aerodynamic performance.

    Enhanced Performance and Stability

AAS not only addresses the critical factor of drag coefficient (Cd), the resistance coefficient of air opposing the vehicle’s motion, but also elevates downforce.
