Company Finally Jumps on the Tesla Charging Network
Mega OEM, Stellantis has announced its embrace of the forthcoming SAE J3400 charging connector. This adoption marks a significant step forward, commencing with the launch of select battery-electric vehicle (BEV) models in North America for the 2026 model year.
The network prioritizes renewable energy, ensuring reliability, rapid charging
Ricardo Stamatti, Stellantis’ Senior Vice President of Global Energy & Charging, emphasized the customer-centric approach, stating, “Customers benefit immensely when the industry unites under open standards. We’re thrilled to declare our support and integration of the SAE J3400 connector, marking a pivotal moment for customers seeking open and seamless charging solutions.”
Stellantis’ move aligns with Dare Forward 2030, prioritizing customer-centric open interoperability. IONNA, a joint venture, promises accessible high-powered charging infrastructure.
The announcement is an extension of the IONNA charging network initiative revealed in June 2023. Stellantis and other leading automakers commit to strategically positioning over 30,000 charge points in North America by 2030.
The network prioritizes renewable energy, ensuring reliability, rapid charging, digital integration, attractive locations, and amenities. It’s all about enhancing the customer journey.
Crucially, the charging stations will cater to all BEV users, supporting both the Combined Charging System and J3400 connectors.
The first wave of charging stations is anticipated in 2024.
