It’s Spring time, which means oil change, but how do you know which oil type to choose?
Most vehicles indicated under the hood which type is preferred, but as a vehicle owner, you should still understand the basics and hopefully this article helps!
10X30 vs 10W20
10W30 and 10W20 are both types of motor oil that are designed for use in automotive engines.
The two oils are differentiated by their viscosity, which is a measure of how thick or thin the oil is.
The first number in the oil’s name (10W, in this case) refers to its viscosity rating at low temperatures, while the second number (30 or 20) refers to its viscosity rating at high temperatures.
In general, 10W30 oil has a higher viscosity than 10W20 oil, meaning that it is thicker and more resistant to flow at high temperatures. This can provide better protection against wear and tear on engine components, especially in older or high-mileage engines.
On the other hand, 10W20 oil is thinner and more flowable than 10W30 oil, which can provide better fuel economy and improved performance in newer engines that are designed to run on thinner oils.
It’s important to note that the recommended oil viscosity for a particular engine can vary depending on factors such as the engine’s design, age, and operating conditions, as well as the manufacturer’s recommendations. It’s always best to consult the owner’s manual or a qualified mechanic to determine the appropriate oil viscosity for your specific vehicle.
