Red Bull’s Second Seat Problem Worsens in China

Lawson Struggles, Tsunoda Next to Crumble?

Somewhere in the world, Sergio Perez is laughing.

We all thought he was finished in 2024. Spins, lack of pace, and mistakes defined his final Red Bull months. He seemed old and out of place.

But fast forward to 2025, and the picture shifts. Liam Lawson was Red Bull’s big gamble. Two races in, that gamble is failing. Lawson has not shown speed or composure.

Now, Red Bull is considering replacing him with Yuki Tsunoda. That’s the same Tsunoda they demoted for Lawson. Why? Maybe speed. Maybe maturity. Or maybe the looming departure of Honda and their Japanese sponsorship money.

Whatever the reason, Tsunoda leaving Racing Bulls would be a mistake. That team suits him. He leads there. The car is friendlier. At Red Bull Racing, the pressure is suffocating.

But no driver will thrive next to Max Verstappen. The car is built for one man. Red Bull’s design philosophy has a flaw. It sacrifices balance for Verstappen’s unique driving style.

One driver can win the World Championship. But the big prize is the Constructors’ title. That’s where the money lives. Red Bull seems content to ignore this.

They’ve forgotten how much two-car strength matters. Mercedes never did. Ferrari has learned the hard way. Red Bull keeps repeating the same mistake.

The second seat curse continues. The names change. The story doesn’t.

The F1 circus now heads to Japan. Three gruelling weeks await. Two drivers will race in blue. But only one will matter.
