Pirelli Extends Global Tire Supremacy in Formula One

Pirelli Extends Global Tire Supremacy in Formula One: A Journey into Sustained Excellence

In an exhilarating turn of events, Pirelli Tire, Formula One, and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have inked a historic deal that is set to keep the Italian tire manufacturer firmly planted at the epicentre of motorsport action. The much-anticipated Global Extension agreement not only ensures Pirelli’s continued reign as the sole tire supplier for the FIA Formula One World Championship but also solidifies its role in the Formula 2 and Formula 3 championships. This pact comes as a breath of fresh air, as the world eagerly awaited the resolution of an agreement due to expire at the close of 2024. However, Pirelli has graciously assented to a new three-year contract extending from 2025 to 2027, with an enticing option to push beyond this horizon.

By the culmination of this latest contract (inclusive of prospective extensions), Pirelli will have woven its tire mastery into the fabric of Formula 1 for an astounding 18 consecutive years, as it embarked on this remarkable journey back in 2011. Pirelli’s enduring legacy within the realm of Formula One is a testament to its unwavering commitment to excellence. Throughout this remarkable period, Pirelli has continuously been at the vanguard, confronting and conquering every technical challenge posed by the pinnacle of motorsport. From its initial foray in 2011 with 13-inch high-degradation tires to adapting to the introduction of hybrid power units in 2014, the transition to wider tires in 2017, and the more recent shift to 18-inch rubber from 2022, Pirelli has consistently risen to the occasion with products that epitomize reliability in the face of varied surfaces and capricious weather, all while supporting the endeavours of the teams, the FIA, and the Formula 1 circus in a timely and flexible manner.

While celebrating this newfound agreement, Pirelli’s commitment to sustainability remains at the forefront of its strategic vision. In harmony with Formula 1’s laudable environmental sustainability targets, with a vow to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2030, Pirelli has been nothing short of exemplary. The company, in collaboration with the FIA and Formula 1, has been at the forefront of innovative research and development, not only enhancing the sporting spectacle but also incorporating sustainability into the very DNA of Formula 1 tires. This commitment extends to a steadfast endeavour to minimize CO2 emissions across the entire lifecycle of a Formula 1 tire.

However, the story doesn’t stop there. As a compelling testament to Pirelli’s dedication to sustainability, a significant milestone was reached. Effective from the year 2024, all tires used in FIA Formula One World Championship events will proudly bear the FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) certification. FSC certification assures complete traceability of forest-based materials along the supply chain and substantiates that the plantations responsible for the forest-based components of these tires are meticulously managed. The stewardship of these resources not only preserves biological diversity but also enriches the lives of local communities and workers, fostering economic sustainability.

In an industry defined by speed, precision, and performance, Pirelli’s tire mastery and enduring commitment to sustainability provide a resounding message of responsibility, longevity, and innovation. As the partnership between Pirelli, Formula One, and the FIA moves forward into this exciting new era, motorsport enthusiasts can look forward to thrilling on-track action underpinned by sustainable excellence. The checkered flag of success, it seems, has more laps to go before the final lap of this partnership is taken.
