Penske Racing: From Cheaters to Front Row Lockout at Indy

Indy 500 Bump Day Qualifications Didn’t Disappoint

Team Penske has been wrapped up in controversy over the last few weeks, but they showed up for Indy 500 qualifying and smashed records.

Penske driver, Scott McLaughlin broke the speed record at Indy with his 234.220mph run, followed by Penske Teammates Will Power at 233.917mph and last year’s Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden at 233.808mph.

Additional highlights include:

  • Chevrolet teams earn Top 8 positions
  • First Honda powered driver is Felix Rosenqvist in 9th position
  • NASCAR all-star and Indy 500 rookie, Kyle Larson qualified 5th before jetting off to his NASCAR race in a helicopter
  • 2022 Indy 500 Marcus Ericsson and Andretti Global driver, lifts off the throttle a lap early and waits until last seconds to make his final run in the LCQ
  • For the 2nd year in a row Graham Rahal narrowly missed being bumped, but made it in after rookie driver Nolan Siegel crashed in the LCQ

The last time all three Team Penske run race cars were on the front row was 1988.  Can they hold on to achieve another win and make it back-to-back Indy 500 wins?

We only have to wait a week to find out.

The 108th Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 26 (11 a.m. ET, NBC, Peacock, INDYCAR Radio Network).
