Jaguar Type 01 Revealed as New Electric GT

Jaguar Finally Begins Its EV Reset

Jaguar has revealed the name of its next-generation electric grand tourer, and I believe it marks one of the brand’s most important turning points in decades. Meet the Jaguar Type 01, a luxury four-door GT designed to reset expectations for Jaguar’s electric future.

The Type 01 name feels intentional. Jaguar is not simply launching another EV. The company is rebuilding its identity around performance, design, and exclusivity. According to Jaguar, the “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions, while the “1” signifies the first vehicle of an entirely new generation.

Jaguar Type 01 Signals a Bold New Era

What caught my attention most is how Jaguar continues connecting its future to its motorsport and performance heritage. The “Type” designation traces back to legendary vehicles like the C-Type, E-Type, and F-TYPE. Those models carried emotional styling, strong road presence, and rewarding driving dynamics. Jaguar clearly wants the Type 01 to continue that legacy.

From a design perspective, Jaguar says the Type 01 introduces bold linear graphics and a new visual signature. The name itself appears within a striking motif where the hood meets the windshield. Even in camouflage, the prototype already hints at a dramatic design language.

Performance numbers are equally ambitious. Jaguar confirms the new electric GT will feature tri-motor technology producing more than 986 horsepower and over 959 lb-ft of torque. Those figures immediately place the Type 01 among the most powerful luxury EVs expected to reach production.

I also appreciate Jaguar’s confidence here. The company is not chasing conservative electric luxury design trends. Instead, it appears focused on creating something emotional and unmistakably different. Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, described the project as a “complete brand reset,” adding that the Type 01 looks and drives unlike any electric vehicle before it.

That statement matters because Jaguar has spent years searching for a stronger identity in the premium market. The Type 01 feels like the first genuine signal that Jaguar wants to compete emotionally again, not just technologically.

Jaguar prototypes will make a public appearance during the Monaco E-Prix weekend, wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap ahead of the official reveal later this year.

For me, this is the most interesting Jaguar story in years. The brand is embracing risk again. That alone deserves attention.

If Jaguar delivers on the promised design, performance, and driving character, the Type 01 could become the vehicle that finally redefines Jaguar’s future in the electric era.
