2023’s Stellar Performance Propels GMC into New International Frontiers
Following a stellar year of sales in 2023, General Motors (GM) proudly expands into Australia, New Zealand, and China. Buoyed by unprecedented success in North America, the automotive giant is introducing the iconic Yukon full-size SUV to these high-growth regions.
This strategic global expansion solidifies GM’s presence beyond established operations in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and the Middle East. The ambitious venture mirrors GM’s remarkable momentum and broad appeal on a global scale.
The triumph in 2023 is underscored by a remarkable 6.5% increase in U.S. retail sales calendar-year-to-date, culminating in the best overall sales performance since 2017. The Sierra LD and HD nameplates were key drivers, achieving their best combined year of sales on record, marking the sixth consecutive year of segment share growth.
The introduction of the Sierra LD pickup truck in South Korea in 2023 further showcased GM’s commitment to innovation and market exploration. This move expanded GM’s footprint and pioneered the premium pickup market in the country.
A notable contributor to GM’s triumph was the surging popularity of the HUMMER EV Pickup and SUV, with retail sales doubling from 2022 to 2023. As production ramps up, the all-electric supertruck remains a focal point of enthusiasm in the automotive world.
In addition to the overall sales surge, GM celebrated the highest annual volume for both Denali (34%) and AT4 (19%) trims in 2023. Looking ahead to 2024, Denali celebrates its 25th year and AT4 marking its fifth year in the lineup.
GM’s commitment to new heights is evident in its entry into the Australian, New Zealand, and Chinese markets. China sales kick off in 2024, while Australia and New Zealand follow suit in 2025. GM’s record-setting year in 2023 serves as a testament to the brand’s resilience, and unwavering appeal on the international stage.
