Ocon Needs to Go & The Sooner The Better For Alpine
Esteban Ocon has once again proven to be a liability on the grid. His latest antics at the Monaco Grand Prix and other recent races underscore a troubling pattern: Ocon’s inability to race cleanly is not only jeopardizing his career but also endangering the safety and success of his peers.
The most glaring incident in Ocon’s recent string of misjudgments occurred this weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix, where he collided unnecessarily with teammate, Pierre Gasly. The crash was a stark reminder of Ocon’s reckless tendencies, reminiscent of his previous clashes that have marred his reputation. Gasly, a seasoned driver himself, was unequivocal in his criticism, asserting that Ocon “has to change.” The collision was avoidable, a sentiment echoed by many within the paddock who view Ocon as a driver who too often lets aggression override judgment.
This incident is not an isolated case. The French driver’s aggressive style has repeatedly landed him in hot water, costing valuable points and, more critically, the respect of his fellow drivers. His aggressive maneuvers and failure to yield when necessary reveal a disregard for the unwritten code of conduct that governs Formula One racing. This pattern of behaviour was also evident in his multiple clashes with Fernando Alonso, another testament to Ocon’s inability to learn from his mistakes and adapt his racing strategy accordingly.

What makes Ocon’s behaviour particularly frustrating is the clear potential he possesses. He has shown flashes of brilliance and has, on occasion, delivered performances worthy of a top-tier driver. However, his frequent lapses into recklessness overshadow these moments of excellence. Instead of being remembered for his talent, Ocon is fast becoming synonymous with unnecessary risks and poor decision-making.
Formula One is not just about speed; it’s about precision, strategy, and respect. Every driver on the grid understands that while the competition is fierce, there is a line that must not be crossed. Ocon’s repeated transgressions suggest a fundamental misunderstanding of this principle. It’s a dangerous path that not only threatens his standing in the sport but also raises concerns about the safety of those around him.
His team, Alpine, must also shoulder some responsibility. They have a duty to ensure their drivers adhere to the highest standards of racing conduct. It’s time for them to take a hard line with Ocon, imposing stricter discipline and perhaps even considering his future with the team if he fails to amend his ways. The sport cannot afford to have a driver whose presence on the track is a constant threat to clean and fair racing.
In our opinion: Ocon needs to go, and the sooner the better for all.
