ChargePoint and Airbnb Partner for Seamless EV Charging

New Amenity Boosts Guest Convenience

ChargePoint and Airbnb Inc., have announced a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to address the increasing demand for EV charging among Airbnb guests. It will simplify the process for U.S. Airbnb hosts to install EV chargers at their properties.

“With Airbnb, we are enabling more EV charging for drivers where they need it,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO at ChargePoint. He added, “We help Airbnb hosts appeal to more travelers by delivering a frictionless charging experience for their guests.” This partnership creates an innovative model to deliver integrated charging solutions and services.

Effective immediately, ChargePoint will provide U.S. Airbnb hosts with an easy and affordable way to install EV chargers. The package includes a dedicated website with ChargePoint hardware, charger management software, installation services, and ongoing support. For Airbnb guests, this partnership ensures a seamless charging experience via the ChargePoint app.

Guests can charge their vehicles at any of the 917,000+ ChargePoint locations and roaming partners. As EV adoption rises, EV charging has transformed from a luxury to a highly sought-after amenity. Airbnb data indicates that listings with EV chargers are booked more frequently and generate higher income.

Searches for Airbnb listings with EV chargers surged by over 80 percent from 2022 to 2023. Similarly, ChargePoint data reveals North American drivers spent over 79 million hours charging at residential locations in 2023. “We are thrilled to join forces with ChargePoint,” said Ameet Konkar, Airbnb’s Director of Sustainability.

He continued, “We help hosts meet the growing demand for electric vehicle chargers from guests. By making it more affordable for hosts to install EV chargers, we empower them to take sustainable actions.” This partnership will attract guests who value this amenity.

While this partnership enhances convenience for travelling guests, it highlights the need for broader EV charger adoption in the hospitality industry. Expanding EV charging solutions in more hotels and accommodations would benefit all EV travelers. This initiative is a positive step forward, but industry-wide expansion would be even more beneficial.
