America’s Fastest Corvette Gives Back
A One-of-One Corvette Just Raised $2.6M for Heroes
At Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, speed, style, and service came together in one unforgettable moment.
On January 24, a bespoke 1-of-1 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X crossed the block — and didn’t just break hearts, it broke expectations. The hammer fell at $2.6 million, with 100% of the sale benefiting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting Gold Star families, injured veterans, first responders, and homeless veterans.
Yes, this was a supercar moment.
But it was also a moment about purpose.
America’s Quickest Corvette — With a Mission
Chevrolet built this ZR1X as part of its Stars & Steel collection, a tribute to American heritage and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States. The car itself is based on what GM calls the fastest car from an American manufacturer to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife — already a statement before the paint even dried.
Then they went full bespoke.
The hand-painted finish, crafted at GM’s Design Fabrication shop, wears a custom Dark Satin Steel exterior. Blue accents flow throughout the car — from the brake calipers to the Carbon Aero rear wing, right into a Santorini Blue interior that delivers patriotic performance without feeling overdone. It’s stealth, strength, and symbolism wrapped into one track-bred machine.
Chevrolet put it best:
“To honor those who serve, Chevrolet created a 1-of-1 edition of America’s quickest production car, the Corvette ZR1X,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet. “We’re proud to know the winning bid will go directly to supporting first responders and veterans in need…”
Performance turned into impact. Literally.
The Buyer? A Motorsport Heavyweight
The winning bidder was Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of Hendrick Motorsports — a name synonymous with American racing excellence. And the car comes with experiences as rare as the badge.
He’ll get to:
- Build the twin-turbo V8 that powers the ZR1X’s rear wheels
- Take part in the first-ever Corvette delivery at the GM Design Dome
- Receive curated Corvette memorabilia
Which brings us to one of the coolest returns in Corvette culture…

The Return of “Build Your Own Engine”
Chevrolet is bringing back its legendary Build Your Own Engine program — something Corvette fans haven’t seen since 2019. Starting this spring, buyers of a Corvette Z06, ZR1, or ZR1X can head to the Performance Build Center in Bowling Green to assemble and sign the V8 that will power their own car.
Chevy now stands as the only automaker offering a factory-guided engine build experience. That’s not just ownership — that’s authorship.
More Than a Car. A Commitment.
This auction adds to a long-standing partnership between GM, Chevrolet, Barrett-Jackson, and Tunnel to Towers. Over the years, Chevrolet has helped raise:
- $11.6 million for wounded veterans through its work with the foundation
- $15.5 million via Barrett-Jackson charity Corvette sales alone
Tunnel to Towers Chairman Frank Siller captured the emotional weight of the moment:
“This incredible gift will help us continue delivering on our promise to never forget the families of our fallen heroes and to ensure our catastrophically injured veterans can live their lives with dignity and independence…”
In a world where performance numbers usually steal the spotlight, this Corvette proved something bigger:
Horsepower is impressive.
But the impact is unforgettable.
Why This Matters in Car Culture
This wasn’t just a record-setting auction car. It was a reminder that automotive passion can do real-world good — that a machine built for speed can also move lives forward.
A one-of-one Corvette.
A $2.6 million bid.
And thousands of families who benefit long after the engine cools.
That’s the kind of automotive story worth telling.
